Historic Holiday Celebration

Escape from the hustle and bustle of the holidays with a visit to Hoyt Sherman Place.  From intricate rococo plaster ceilings to carved mahogany, this 135 year old mansion features a 1200+ seat theatre that offers some of the best acoustics in the country.  This week Hoyt Sherman has two musicals - a classic traditional story and a brand new show.

A new musical, Away in the Basement, is set on the day of the Sunday School Christmas Program in 1959.  Holiday preparations by the church ladies are in full swing, but plenty of hilarious antics keep the audience laughing.  This is the third musical for “The Church Ladies” and it promises to be as good as the first two installments.  Tickets are available for December 19-21

If you are looking for something more traditional, look no farther than Miracle On 34th Street.  One of the best-loved holiday tales, this musical is based on the 1940’s movie and features terrific music from Iowa’s own Meredith Willson.  There is only one chance to see this at Hoyt Sherman on Saturday, December 22nd.

Can’t make it this week?  Hoyt Sherman has concerts, plays, musicals, dance performances and more all year round.  Or take a tour of the historic mansion to learn some fascinating history and see a truly beautiful home.
